The Third of July

For July 4th, Wren and I did some special red, white and blue baking. After all, we had potlucks to attend. We made blue cupcakes with white, fluffy frosting and fresh strawberries on top. We also made "Firework Brownies." Wren decided to dump the entire bottle of "fireworks" into the batch. He did a great job baking and everything turned out lovely.  :-)

Jamming.

Making jam for my fellas. Mmm! Just working on getting the proportions correct. I prefer not to use pectin. Just fruit and sugar. This batch is delicious already!

I also made a pineapple upside down cake the other day. It was soooo delicious! I cut up an entire fresh pineapple for the topping. I didn't mess with the icky old maraschino cherries or nuts, though. Just delicious, fresh pineapple! Yum yum!

Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving was a fun day for us. We had pancakes for breakfast. Then we caught a matinee. Wren LOVED the new Muppet movie. Afterward, we stopped by to visit some friends for a bit. Then it was home for a delicious meal. I found a smoked turkey at the store. I served it with smashed potatoes, GF gravy, cranberry relish, and spinach salad. 30 min prep ~ can't beat that. Plus, Jess made one of his famous pumpkin pies. So, we had that to enjoy afterward. :-)

Wren's 3rd Birthday.

This year for Wren's birthday we headed north to Poulsbo. We hadn't been there, but we had heard good things. So, we loaded into the car and up we went. What a charming town! Quaint, comfy, clean... we loved it.

The first stop was to a gluten-free market and deli that I had heard of. We picked up a special cupcake for the birthday boy and off we went. We ended up down by the waterfront where we enjoyed a DELICIOUS lunch at Casa Luna. The photo is of Wren eating chips as Cookie Monster would.

Then Wren asked to play with "some kids" (as he often does). We found a GREAT park and he played with a few really nice children for a couple of hours or so.

Then it was time for his birthday song, cupcake, and the drive home. We had a great day!

Bird in Motion.

Wren's moving forward, alright. Literally and figuratively speaking. He is eating out of his bowls at lunch and dinner time now. Hearty, delicious fruits and veggies (with the occasional serving of tofu thrown in for a little protein.)

He pulled himself up using the laundry basket the other day. He can stand alone using something for support, but is not too steady yet. If you hold his hands for him, he will resort to bouncing and dancing.

He does 4x4 crawling. If something is in his way, he will crawl over it. If it gets caught on him in the process, he will drag it with him. He is a very determined and busy little fellow.

P.S. - He looks A LOT like me. *beaming with pride*

Hungry Bird Boy.

Wren is eating more and more "regular" food now.  He has two fruits (or a large blend) with his brunch bottle, and two vegetables with his dinner bottle each day.

He seems to prefer green vegetables ~ with peas and green beans at the top of his list of favorites.  He also likes pears and blueberries mixed.  The apple and apricot blend was not too popular with him, though. I think that the apricots were probably a bit too tart.

Sometimes he is so tidy when he eats that you wouldn't even know that he had anything. Other times, he wiggles and giggles and kicks and spreads the food all over (see photo).  It's pretty cute.  :-)

When he does make a mess, he doesn't like to have the food cleaned off of his face. I try to get it, and he shakes his head back and forth really quickly.

Well Worth the Fall.

My sister and I stumbled upon this beauty during her last visit.  It is a peanut butter "cookie" with a peanut butter cup on top.  You wouldn't believe the degree of deliciousness.  It is fairly simply to recreate, too... made in a muffin pan.  Enjoy!

Food Update.

Wren likes carrots now.  Not a lot, but he isn't spitting them out and making repulsed faces like before.  :-)
