Conversations With Wren.

Mama: "What are these?"
Wren: "Deet."
Mama: "Good. How many feet do you have?"
Both: "One. Two. Two feet."
Mama: "What are these?"
Wren: "Yegs."
Mama: "Good. How many legs do you have?"
Both: "One. Two. Two legs."
Mama: "Okay, Wren. Do you remember what we call the things in the middle of your legs?" (thinking of his knees, but mistakenly not touching them as a reference)
Wren: "Middole yegs? *looks down* Gentles."
Mama: "Very good, Wren. Genitals."

He picked up this branch and proudly exclaimed, "V!"
Well done, Wren ~ some would argue that it also looks like a Y.

I was in the kitchen the other day. Wren came barreling down the hall, through the living room and kitchen and was headed for the office. I asked him what he was going to do, to which he simply replied, "Have fun." Sounds good to me.

Later that same day (no joke) Wren was very determinedly running in the opposite direction. I asked him what he was up to. Without looking up or stopping he replied, "Play room."

He never ceases to make me smile.

Bitso.

  • Our house is in a COMPLETE disarray (even by messy standards). We (or I) have everything pulled out of everywhere. Things are being reorganized, renegotiated, passed along, etc. Closets, rooms, pantries... nothing is safe. We're starting fresh. It is, however, quite claustrophobic whilst in process.
  • Wren has been going "pee pee" on the toilet an average of two times per day. He's very proud... as are we!
  • Thank you to everyone who contributed to our "Cali Vacay" fund. We are about half way there! Woo hoo!
  • Yesterday Wren was shaking his water bottle whilst doing hops and lunges on our bed. Water was everywhere. When I asked him what he was thinking. He simply replied, "Rain."
  • I still have a couple of thank you notes to get out ~ please bear with me. Shant be long now.
  • Happy has been an easy addition to our unit. Transition has been effortless. She and Wren are quite close already. :-)
  • Wren's chores include: starting the dishwasher, helping to sort laundry, helping to sweep the floors, and feeding Happy two times per day.
  • We are approaching this year with "rose-colored-glasses-half-full-of-silver-linings." *fingers crossed*

Wren is Twenty-One Months Old!

Wren recently had a growth spurt. By "growth spurt" I mean one day he had several pairs of pants that fit okay, and the very next day only three pair remained. Two pairs of nice pants, and one pair of play pants. Holy moly! Thank goodness for hand-me-downs! In these photos he is wearing a 2T shirt and 3T pants!!! He didn't outgrow his pants in the waist (he has, in fact, lost a little weight). The issue was with the rise and length. He gained some height!

His words increase every day, as does his ability to use them accordingly (rather than being a little mocking bird). Example: I tell Wren that I love him and rather than responding with "I love you" he says "Thank you" and gives me a kiss. He recently added "Yellkum" to his polite vernacular. "Please" is still tricky, though. Must be the "pl" formation.

He STILL loves to play ball and read books like crazy. He recently formed an interest in trucks and airplanes. He points out every single truck and airplane each day. Every single one. If he's in his room playing and hears a truck go by on the street, he'll ask: "Guck?"

We're still trying to expand his diet, but he is oddly finicky. If he doesn't like the way something looks, he won't even touch it.

So far so good, though. He continues to be a joy everyday. :-)

June 12th.

So, today's a pretty big day:

It's Auntie Joy's birthday (Happy birthday, Auntie Joy!).
It's our First Date Anniversary (17 years ago, today, two youngsters went out for a movie and a milkshake...)
Wren turns 20 months old today! 20 months seems so much older than 19 months! Wow.
We're supposed to reach the mid 70s today (warmest day in 9 months).
So, if you ask me, today is a good day. All around. In the words of our beloved Rogelio: "Enyoy!" :-)

Wren is Eighteen Months Old!

It's been a whole year and a half! Can you believe it? I can't.

Wren continues to mature into a smart and silly little fella. He LOVES to read books and play outside above all else. He has more and more words every day. He has a silly sense of humor. He loves music. He dances, sings a little now, and plays the guitar and bongos quite well. He still loves to play ball, too. He's a good little guy.

His height is still in the 95th percentile, and his weight is in the 90th. He's a healthy, happy boy.

Wren is Fourteen Months Old!

Today Wren had his first hair(s)cut. We went to Mark's Barber Shop (where Jesse goes), and had his sweet baby curls lopped off. He was so good sitting in the chair with the scissors, the clippers, and the blow dryer whirling all around his little head. He even smiled a few times.

Baby Genius.

I don't have much in terms of a basis for comparison. I remember a lot of things that my sibs did when they were young, but clearly not everything. It's just that I swear... Wren has some skills that seem advanced. One example is playing ball. He LOVES playing ball. I don't mean just rolling the ball back and forth (which seems quite 10 month-ish). I mean he throws it and CATCHES it. He catches the ball. He puts his little hands out and waits for you to throw and then - bam! He's holding the ball. Is this normal? I didn't think so.

Bird in Forward Motion.

Wren was stuck in reverse for quite a while. He recently shifted. He's getting faster day by day... and braver (he's going everywhere). Good little boy. :-D
Please excuse the poor quality and lack of sound. My camera takes very nice photos, but not the best videos. A little something is always better than nothing, though. :-)

Bird in Motion.

Wren's moving forward, alright. Literally and figuratively speaking. He is eating out of his bowls at lunch and dinner time now. Hearty, delicious fruits and veggies (with the occasional serving of tofu thrown in for a little protein.)

He pulled himself up using the laundry basket the other day. He can stand alone using something for support, but is not too steady yet. If you hold his hands for him, he will resort to bouncing and dancing.

He does 4x4 crawling. If something is in his way, he will crawl over it. If it gets caught on him in the process, he will drag it with him. He is a very determined and busy little fellow.

P.S. - He looks A LOT like me. *beaming with pride*
